Optimism or Denial?

For those of us who practice self-development and living our best lives, being positively focused is a must. Because we know the value of our energy and we understand the power of our thoughts, we strive for a positive attitude. We know that gratitude brings more things to be grateful for and appreciation brings more to be appreciated.

Systemic Racism Fueled by Displacement and Degradation

We must admit that these displaced urban communities are so powerful that they control the lives of every person who lives there. This is true regardless of skin color. I do not highlight this to prove that all colors suffer but to demonstrate the power of gentrification.

If We Judged Our Heroes Like We Judge Each Other We Wouldn’t Have Any

A great many writers, musicians and creators do not practice what they preach but preach what they wish to practice. That is not good or bad, but it is just the way it is. It does not discount their message.
Because we do not want to look at the ugly side of our heroes, we put away the sides of them and the facts of their existence that we find undesirable.

The Art of Being Soft and Strong

Developing the ability to be soft and strong is truly an art. It is a gift, a talent, and a superpower. However, it takes a little longer for others to accept and understand because it is so different. People have a hard time comprehending that someone can be two seemingly opposite things at the same time. As humans, we are inclined to place people in either one category or another. We have what one of my favorite authors, Jen Sincero, likes to call the “either-or syndrome”. Soft or strong, good or bad, creative or responsible, the list goes on.

America — The Change We Seek

American people have been speaking out more than we have in decades about the change we seek. If we have learned anything from the past 244 years, we have learned that nothing is more powerful than what we believe. If we don’t change what we collectively believe, the changes we make will not have a lasting effect and that which we thought we changed will manifest again — in new and often insidious ways.

All Coins Have Two Sides — Balancing Our Human Nature

I wanted acceptance, purpose, freedom and love. I wanted what I wanted and I couldn’t understand the gibberish they were speaking about balance. I had real life problems to deal with and here they were talking about balance.

Destructive by Nature — Some People Build While Others Destroy

Have you ever met that person who seems to swing around like a wrecking ball?
The ones going around laying their claws into anything and everything in hopes of mass destruction?
I know you have met that person. You may even be them.

Being Used is Only Bad in Excess

When we talk about someone being used in a relationship, we usually think of it as a bad thing. Comments around people using people usually have negative connotations. No matter who you are or where your passion lies on the spectrum of human possibility, you have no reason to share your gifts, your work, or your ideas with the world — if no-one is going to use them. Being used isn’t bad. We all want to be used. What we don’t want is to be over-used, under-appreciated or under-compensated.
